The creator of Cat’s eye at Romics: Tsukasa Hojo, for the first time in Italy

The illustrator of  extraordinary and beautiful women, creator of refined detective stories marked by a characteristic humor.

In 1981, Tsukasa Hojo, published the work that made him famous all over the world: Cat’s Eye, with a characteristic and involving story. His female protagonists, although falling whitin  the typical rules of manga, find great inspiration in the western standards.

In his works script and illustration, go always hand in hand in the motion and the beauty. Hojo is a complet author, conscious of his art  which led him to play continuously with his audience. He moves us, he amuses us, he overturns our expectations. Hojo often encourages us to support  the “bad ones” such as the three beautiful sisters that steal to bring together  the works of their missing father; we smile  for  the funny detective (at the same time serious person and  devoted to his own mission) who is the fiancé of one of the three art thieves without knowing her real activity.

A few years after the release of Cat’s Eye,  Hojo started to publish the work that definitively consecrated him among the Japanese and international audience, City Hunter. The series follows the exploits of Ryo Saeba, a "sweeper" who is always found chasing beautiful girls and a private detective who works to rid Tokyo of crime, along with his associate or partner, Hideyuki Makimura. Their "City Hunter" business is an underground jack-of-all-trades operation, contacted by writing the letters "XYZ" on a blackboard at Shinjuku Station. One day, Hideyuki is murdered, and Ryô must take care of Hideyuki's sister, Kaori, a tomboy who becomes his new partner in the process. However, Kaori is very susceptible and jealous, often hitting Ryô with a giant hammer when he does something perverted. The story also follows the behind-the-scenes romance between Ryo and Kaori and the way they cooperate throughout each mission. Also in this manga series we can find hints of great emotion and psychological depth of the characters, typical of hojo’s works.

Cat’s eye and and City Hunter soon became two Tv series which consecrated their author all around the world. Tsukasa Hojo, for the first time in Italy, is one of the most beloved Manga artist  in our country, great guest at  Romics in collaboration with Jungle.

Hojo loves to develop many subjects  such as relationships, drama, comedy, nostalgia, adding however the right amount of  humor, so that it becomes inevitable to get attached to his characters.

Family Compo is a new and important narrative challenge, in which he faces, always with his own style, the  theme of transexuality, carried out with the typical traits of comedy of misunderstandings; Under the dapple shade is a wonderful and delicate story; Angel Heart, the spin off of City Hunter, a story related to the heart transplant of  Kaori and to many new adventures.

Hojo Tsukasa is a long-time friend of creator Tetsuo Hara, together with Buronson author of Hokuto no Ken, for whom he illustrated the female character of Reina. Hojo was also teacher and mentor of Takehiko Inoue, author of the cult series  Slam Dunk and Vagabond.

Hojo is co-founder of Coamix Inc, Japanese manga and anime production company, which publishes the monthly manga magazine Comic Zenon.

Tsukasa Hojo will be present at Romics thanks to the collaboration with Jungle and Coamix.
